Bulls On The Uprise

With the current signing of Ben Wallace the Bulls now look to move Tyson Chandler to free up some much needed cap space in the future. The deal currently stands for Ben Wallace as four years at 52 million dollars, only 4 million more then the Pistons offer. One of the few reasons why the Bulls may look to deal Chandler is to get under the cap and try to resign many of their "baby" Bulls currently on their roster. Sure the Bulls do have the bird rights of many of their players but it seems as John Paxon, general manager of the Bulls, is trying to be fiscally responsible in case a team looks to offer any of his current players a max contract down the line.

The current deal that is brewing up heat is that the Bulls may look to send Chandler to the Hornets. The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets are currently seven-teen million dollars under the cap, even with the recent signing of Peja. The Hornets would send PJ Brown, long time Miami Heat player, to the Chicago Bulls along with guard J.R. Smith. Chi-town's interest in Brown includes a veteran leader and may even provide a more offensive activity then Tyson Chandler, without missing a beat on the defensive side. The other interest as mentioned above is the eight million dollars the Bulls would be getting from his contract.

The Bulls would also be getting a raw guard, J.R. Smith, who had problems last season with the Hornets. J.R. Smith who was named the starter in the start of last season over Maji, the sharp-shooter NOK brought over from overseas. However, Smith soon lost his spot to Kirk Snyder who broke out late during the season.

The Hornets also drafted Marcus Vinicius in the second round which now makes J.R. Smith expendable. Though many call Smith a potential slasher/scorer with a ton of atheletic ability he somehow developed the reputation as a head-case. If this trade does go down it would be interesting to see how coach Scott Skiles works playing time with the amount of guards currently on the team.

The second trade that is also currently brewing is a trade that would send Tyson Chandler along with small foward/shooting guard Loul Deng, Tyrus Thomas and perhaps a future pick for Kevin Garnett. The ramifications of the this trade would send the easteren conference in a whirlwind as the Bulls went from one of the worst teams in the east after Michael Jordan's retirement, to the best team in the east, perhaps making a new dynasty with the current Bulls. Nevertheless, as much as an offensive threat Garnett would be having Ben Wallace on the court wouldn't hurt them offensively either as their other starters, Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, Chris Duhon, Andres Nocioni, and Thabo would florish with such a front court.

To look at the other end of the spectrum as much as the Wolves would be losing perhaps the most valuable asset to their franchise, they would gain back quality depth. Chandler and Blount can provide the team with their defensive and offensive games respectively. And even though Mark Blount does have a big contract he would in fact be a servicable center behind Tyson Chandler. Loul Deng would also provide scoring for the Wolves as he showed during the Heat series he was able to carry the Bulls for long streches putting up 20 points. The Wolves may also add Tyrus Thomas on the team who really impressed scouts during pre-draft workouts and may potentially have a rising star in the making. In addition Wolves may also have the future to look foward to because if in fact they get the Bulls pick from 2007 it would be the swap pick from the Knicks, making the Bulls even better would make the Knick pick even worse, making it a catch-22 for the Wolves to deal with the Bulls to ensure the pick would be even better.
