The Indiana Pacers were able to get themselves into the playoffs
this past off-season despite the Ron Artest debacle that went
on for over a month. The Pacers troubles began when they were
looking for a suitor to take on the on-court 'manaic' as he
is known since the brawl that occurred in Motown.
The Pacers found themselves dealing Artest to the Kings as
they received in return the Serbian shooter, Peja S. On the
Pacers Peja averaged 19.5 points a game and along with Jermaine
O'Neal carried them to the 6th seed in the playoffs. Both
Rick Carlisle and Kevin O'Neill were pleased with the performance
displayed by Peja and compared him to former long-time Pacer
Reggie Miller.
The Pacers post-season came to halt to in a late loss to
the Nets where Anthony Johnson was called for foul as he fouled
Vince Carter on the shorts going to the basket. However, the
real loss was that Peja had announced that he would opt out
of his contract that made him eligible to receive up to 8.2
million dollars.
