Adirondack Is Back - The Hottest New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture!
It's not surprising that a vintage American design like the Adirondack Chair has made a comeback in just the last couple of years. This retro fad is spreading quickly because families across the country are electing to spend a lot more time relaxing and kicking back in a faithfully planned outside living area. I remember as a 6 year old, sinking completely back into one of these familiar old chairs, with my feet hanging just over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled the apples we picked and discussed the warm apple pie smothered with vanilla ice cream that we knew granny would have for us after we ate supper. Balancing a cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and mellow. When Grandpa told his stories it made time fly by. It's really no big mystery why we like to unwind outside, whether that's sitting on the front porch watch people go by, in your garden area, on the deck, or out on the patio. There just isn't a better way to kick back than to sit down in a high backed, deep seated, familiar Adirondack and just leave your cares behind.
Just where exactly did this little piece of American culture come from? Actually, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. This furniture design was trendy at the several resorts and mountain getaways that were so prominent back then. By the time 1940 came around the Adirondack style was almost every place. The design began to spread to the south and was going west quickly. As the Adirondack furniture design started growing in popularity, and found its way around the country, influences regionally started to show up. The furniture design was utilized in a variety of styles of outdoor furniture which include; gliders, porch swings, rocking chairs, benches, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This charming design combines a couple of chairs with a table between them and is built as one piece. What a pleasant way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with the one you love!
You will be amazed and happy to find a large assortment of Adirondack furniture that is available now. Not only has the original furniture design withstood the winds of time, but the Adirondack craze has exploded with a wonderful supply of material, colors, finishes, and styles. Conventional Adirondack style furniture is built out of wood that is known for resisting bugs and deterioration like cypress, oak, white or red cedar, or cherry. The wood that is chosen is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do individual furniture styles. A hot new extra in classical Adirondack style is patio or deck furniture built out of polymer "lumber" that is made from plastic recycled packaging, old milk jugs, and other things. Not only is this an environmentally friendly way to invest in your furniture, but you will also have advantages with longevity, easy care, durability, and your colors won't eventually fade because the pigment is mixed all the way through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors for added protection.
